The last day of 2015, around 3PM. We finally manage to skip the rbati traffic jam and get on the highway to the green and beautiful city of Tangier. The pinkish sunset is gorgeous, we stop every now and then to capture those magical moments before they are gone.

We reach Tangier and start looking for the riad. 3 minutes walk from one of the numerous entrances to the medina, just in front of the sea. Paul, a talkative and easy-going owner of the place, opened the carved, wooden door for us. When I looked up to from the floor, walls to the ceiling I knew that so much effort and love was put into the creation of this riad. Indeed, Paul told me he had bought it for his family and the renovation took 4 years. After that his son got divorced and the riad was no longer a family home. Paul wondered what to do with such a big house that consumed enormous amount of time, passion and money. He turned it into a guest house. I knew my common sense couldn’t deceive me. It indeed feels like home!

At 7PM we are already in our cosy, beige room. Two hours left to get fresh and ready before the dinner for the guests of Dar Souran starts. I can’t hold on, I feel this urgent need to explore the place. Having taken some snaps of the room, we are heading to the rooftop. I am a rooftop maniac and no rooftop can escape my attention. Let’s go there first!

The rooms are spacious and each one of them has an extremely comfortabe bed with a super-thick mattress. Unlike typical riads, there are no inner windows overlooking the interior of the house. On the other hand, lovers of big windows and sunlight will be pleased because the windows in the rooms are great and let the Sun come in. Every room in Dar Souran has a theme color, in the photos below you can see sky blue Majorelle, romantic red Romana and goldish Sultana. The rooms are clean and tidy.

Delicious breakfast, that is included in the room price, is served on the terrace from where you can admire the entire old town. The dinners taste just like homemade tagines served by Moroccan moms. Note, they are not included in the price of the room. If you want to have a lunch or dinner in the riad, you have to tell that in advance.

Price of the room depends on its decor. Rooms are around 110-150 euros a night with breakfast included. It’s a perfect place for people who enjoy a bit of luxury, not for budget travelers. What’s more, it’s not a typical hotel neither. Thanks to kindness of Paul, Maryem and the rest of the staff you will feel like home.

The riad also has a traditional, Moroccan hammam.
