Sahara Desert: Reaching the Sahara is an adventure in itself. It’s typically a 10-12 hour drive from Marrakech, passing through stunning landscapes and Berber villages. Most trips to the Sahara require at least 3-4 days to truly appreciate the journey and the destination.
My take: If you have the time, the journey to the Sahara is part of the experience and shouldn’t be missed. But if you’re pressed for time, Agafay offers a taste of desert life without the long trek.
Time Commitment: Hours vs. Days
Agafay Desert: You can experience Agafay in as little as a half-day trip from Marrakech. A one-night stay is ideal for experiencing sunset, stargazing, and sunrise.
Sahara Desert: To truly experience the Sahara, I recommend setting aside at least 4 days. This allows for the journey there and back, plus time to explore the dunes, experience desert life, and fully disconnect from the world.

My take: If luxury is a priority, Agafay has the edge. But for an authentic experience, nothing beats a traditional camp in the Sahara.
